Nespresso Not Hot Enough? (SOLVED!)

As any coffee drinker knows, there’s nothing quite as disappointing as getting a fresh cup of coffee and taking that first sip only to discover that it is not hot enough.

This can even happen at home when you make coffee or espresso with your Nespresso machine.

The truth is that Nespresso machines make coffee at a cooler temperature than a drip coffee machine, which means it will not be as hot as a cuppa from a traditional coffee maker.

But, if this is a new problem that you’re experiencing, then we’ve got some tips to get you back to the coffee temperature that you’re used to from your Nespresso machine.

How Hot Is Nespresso Machine Coffee?

Let’s get started by checking out what you should expect from your Nespresso machine in terms of coffee hotness.

The brewing temperature inside a Nespresso machine is around 83-86° for Original and 78° ± 5° for Vertuo.

This ensures optimal extraction of the coffee aromas without burning the coffee.

It also makes sure that you are able to enjoy your coffee right away.

Nespresso coffee is meant to be enjoyed immediately after brewing, which is why it keeps a lower temperature than for example, filter coffee.

How To Make Your Nespresso Coffee Hotter

I’m one of those people who wants my coffee practically scalding hot, so I get the need for an even hotter coffee from your Nespresso machine.

So, if you find the coffee from your Nespresso is not hot enough, there are a few things to consider:

  • Preheat the cup with hot water. A cold coffee cup cools the coffee quickly.
  • Do you use milk in the coffee? Keep in mind that cold milk cools the coffee as well, please warm the milk before – if you have an aeroccino or milk foam function on your Nespresso machine – both heat and foam the milk with a simple push of a button.
  • Using spoon in your coffee can also help to cool down quickly.

Of course, I know that those options aren’t ideal, but whatever it takes to get a hot cup of coffee, right?

Does Your Nespresso Need Descaled?

If you haven’t cleaned your Nespresso machine in a while, then the lukewarm coffee could be a result of limescale buildup affecting the temperature of the coffee.

That’s right, if it was long time since you descaled your machine, this could also affect the brewing temperature.

For tips on this process, check out our guide on how to descale your Nespresso machine.

You May Need To Reset The Machine’s Pressure

Sometimes the pressure in the Nespresso machine decreases after a time of use, and this may an effect on the temperature.

By brewing approximately 5 lungo cups with only water (no capsule) will help the machine to build the pressure again.

Then the pressure is rebuilt and machine will heat the water properly.

How To Turn Up The Temperature On A Nespresso Machine

No, you cannot change the temperature of the water heating on a Nespresso machine.

Personally, I feel like this is an oversight since people like me (and you) enjoy our coffee at hotter temperatures than a Nespresso machine can give us.

But alas, here we are, unable to adjust the temperature on our Nespresso.

Final Word

As you can see, there is no way to adjust the temperature setting on your Nespresso machine to make it hotter.

However, there are a few steps that you can take to increase the hotness of your Nespresso coffee, despite the lack of a temperature setting.
